A Matter of Timing You want to leave town, go see the world People, you might like to know them Visit a town, some name you've never heard You're sure you've got something to show them Have a cigar, you're gonna go far Shine like a crazy diamond Your name isn't Pink, but part of you thinks, "It's all just a matter of timing." "It's all just a matter of timing, it's all just a matter of timing." The stories you're told and memories sold Leave you feeling like something is lacking Your hopes and your dreams, have grown frayed at the seams Sanity verges on cracking You're walking real fast, but moving too slow As time slips into the future And all of the things you've forgotten to know Or maybe just never had any use for, it's all just a matter of timing It's all just a matter of timing, it's all just a matter of timing You want to cry out “What’s this all about?” But the answer is always the same If you win or you lose You’ll still get the blues You just hope they’ll remember your name You hope they'll remember, You hope they'll remember... The lessons you learn, bridges you burn They only stand to reason Don't wait too long to sing out your song For everything, there is a season. The answers you seek, faint-hearted and weak Are something you still haven't found yet Just letting go is easier, so you ride off into the sunset It's all just a matter of timing, it's all just a matter of timing It's all just a matter of timing, it's all just a matter of timing... Blue skies, turning grey now, dark clouds rolling in Can’t seem to find my way, don’t remember where I’ve been But soon those clouds will be parting, and a light come shining through A brand new day is starting, don’t you know that I’m coming back to you Coming back to you Any time spent away is much too long, any distance is too far Love like this can’t be wrong, let’s go dance beneath the stars Warm nights and gentle breezes, a life that’s good and true You’re all I’ve ever needed, and that’s why I’ll keep coming back to you Coming back to you Grey skies been turning blue now, dark clouds nowhere to be seen Your sweet love is all I ever knew, my heart’s right where it’s always been Walk the road with you a while, that’s all I want to do Drown in your eyes, get lost in your smile Coming back to you, coming back to you Coming back to you, coming back to you Coming back… K.S. Black River Road Born to this world a bastard's boy, fair bet he'll swing a highwayman Never knew love, or an ounce of joy, so he hits the ground running just as fast as he can He hits the ground running as fast as he can Down on Black River Road, down on Black River Road He was cursed and beaten more often than fed, forged and tempered by hate and pain Never knew better than this life he led, Pity never spoke his name Mercy never heard his name Down on Black River Road, down on Black River Road He took what he needed and never looked back, infamy was his fame All that he saw was all he lacked, losses were his only gains Losses were his only gains Down on Black River Road, down on Black River Road Live by the sword, maybe die by the knife - to this fate, born and bred When the Hangman's noose ended his life, and not a single tear was shed Not a single tear was shed Down on Black River Road, down on Black River Road Down on Black River Road, down on Black River Road K.S.K. 06-24-11

All Remains (Inside the Fugue) I'm not happy with how I breathe I can't stay, won't just leave Two steps forward, one step back Caught up on a one way track When you find your way When you seize the day All is gone and all remains Lost in transit now Still, you see somehow That all is gone, all remains Its all so clear from time to time We lack no reason, we see the rhyme Choices fleeting, and far too few I get so lost inside the fugue When you find a way When you seize the day All is gone, all remains Left in transit now Still you see somehow All is gone, all remains 06-14-13

about

This is my debut EP.

It's a combination of professionally recorded and completed tracks, as well as incomplete tracks that I've "filled in the blanks" to the best of my ability in order to complete the EP by the date I set for myself.

The title track is entirely my own work, from beginning to end, and the balance of the music on this EP was created by myself and one other musician.

My running joke has long been “That one is going to be on my album, due to be released in 2037”. That could still be true, but I wanted to get something out before then, if at all possible.

...lights pipe and settles in...

It all started in a friend’s house in about 1978 playing Dungeons & Dragons with him and his parents (What?!? It’s not like anyone is going to be surprised that I played Dungeons & Dragons).

His parents would have music on while we played. My friend made me a cassette from their albums with “Songs from the Wood” on one side and “Minstrel in the Gallery” on the other side. My love of Jethro Tull (and music, in general) was set in motion.

Fast-forward that cassette to the mid-80’s and my teenage years, in a Harrington Park basement at another friend’s house, my buddy Dave put Neil Young’s “Helpless” on the turntable.

After the song was done, I think that my reaction was simply, “Can we listen to that again?”

When I was about 17, my older, left-handed, non-guitar playing brother showed me how to play the lick from “Smoke on the Water” and “Aqualung” on my aunt’s old Sears acoustic guitar.
That was enough to get me started teaching myself how to play, (I did take some lessons, and then studied classical guitar for about a year when I first started playing, but thirty some-odd years later I’m still largely self-taught).

I loved singing, and I wanted to play guitar so that I could sing and I wanted to learn how to do all that cool stuff on acoustic and electric guitars the way that guys like Jimmy Page and Steve Howe did.

Over the intervening years, I’ve made a few aborted attempts at recording my original music, and I have ‘completed’ a few things here and there. But never in what I would consider a ‘proper studio’.

That’s finally changed with the help of a very talented musician/producer friend.

The songs on the EP range from things I’ve written over the last nine or ten years, to a relatively recent song. They differ somewhat, stylistically, but hopefully there’s still some cohesiveness to this collection of songs.

If you’ve read this, thank you for your time and I hope that you enjoy the music.
